There is a way you can trace and recover your lost phone. Just remember that your phone or mobile device has a unique IMEI identity which can be used to track it to wherever it is on planet earth.

If ever lost or stolen, there is a way you can trace and recover your lost or stolen phone or mobile device, even before reporting to the Police. If you can act on this information right away, then you should never be afraid of loosing your handset or mobile device.

Just remember that your phone or mobile device has a unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), which can be used to track it to wherever it is on planet earth. So you need to access and secure your phone's IMEA as soon as you unpack it; not when it gets lost!

This is how to go about it:

  1. To know your IMEI Number, simply dial *#06# from your mobile device.
  2. When you do this, your mobile phone shows a screen with a unique 15 digit code.
  3. Write down, Copy and Save this number to a secure media. Storing this number to a file on your mobile device is useless in case of loss of your phone or mobile device; because this is the number you will need to help you trace your phone or mobile device, in case of loss or theft.
  4. If your handset is lost or stolen, just email your 15 digit IMEI Number to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the following details:

Your Name:

Your Address:

Your Phone model:

Your Phone Make:

Your Last used Number.:

Your eMail for contact:

Missed Date:

Your IMEI No :

With the above information, your mobile device can be traced within 24 hours using a combined system of GPRS and Internet technology. A GPS (Global Positioning System) and Internet enabled phone will give faster and more accurate tracking. You'll be able to know where your handset is being operated from, and the new user's phone number will be sent to the email address you provided.

  1. You may then wish to lodge a formal complaint with the Police about your missing phone or mobile device, providing all the information now at your disposal. This will help the Police swing into effective and targeted action.
